Disentangling stability and change in job resources , job demands , and employee well - being — A three - wave study on the Job - Demands Resources model

چکیده
This study aims to: (1) examine the stable and changing components across time of job resources, job demands, work engagement, and burnout, and (2) investigate the relationships -as specified by the Job Demands-Resources model -between job characteristics (demands and resources) and employee well-being (burnout and engagement) when controlled for their stable components. These two issues were addressed using longitudinal data from 3 waves with a 1-year time interval (N = 1,038). Results from structural equation modelling indicate that the stable component accounts for 48-69% (wave 1 to 3) of the total variance in job resources, whereas for job demands these percentages range from 30-35% (wave 1 to 3). Moreover, it appears that 54-66% (wave 1 to 3) of the variance in work engagement and 40-45% (wave 1 to 3) of the variance in burnout is accounted for by a stable component. Hence, compared to the negative aspects of the working environment (i.e., job demands and burnout), positive aspects (i.e., job resources and work engagement) seem to be more stable. We also detected significant relationships between the changing components of job resources and job demands on the one hand and work engagement and burnout on the other. These findings are consistent with the Job Demands-Resources model.

The impact of job crafting on job demands, job resources, and well-being.
This longitudinal study examined whether employees can impact their own well-being by crafting their job demands and resources. Based on the job demands-resources model, we hypothesized that employee job crafting would have an impact on work engagement, job satisfaction, and burnout through changes in job demands and job resources. Data was collected in a chemical plant at three time points wit...
متن کاملDifferent types of employee well-being across time and their relationships with job crafting.
We used and integrated the circumplex model of affect (Russell, 1980) and the conservation of resources theory (Hobfoll, 1998) to hypothesize how various types of employee well-being, which can be differentiated on theoretical grounds (i.e., work engagement, job satisfaction, burnout, and workaholism), may differently predict various job crafting behaviors (i.e., increasing structural and socia...

Background and Aim: Resilience is one of the factors affecting the job performance of employees and maintaining their health in a stressful work environment. This study aimed to apply the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model to investigate the individual resilience and the factors affecting it in Melli Bank branch employees of Kerman. Methods: In this self-reported cross-sectional survey, 358 Me...

Purpose – This study aims to investigate the relation between job demands and job resources on the one hand and employee well-being (burnout and work engagement) on the other. It was assumed that this relation is mediated by an equity-based cognitive evaluation process. Design/methodology/approach – This mediation hypothesis was tested using the Job-Demands Resources model in two Chinese sample...
متن کاملJob crafting in changing organizations: Antecedents and implications for exhaustion and performance.
The present study addressed employee job crafting behaviors (i.e., seeking resources, seeking challenges, and reducing demands) in the context of organizational change. We examined predictors of job crafting both at the organizational level (i.e., perceived impact of the implemented changes on the working life of employees) and the individual level (i.e., employee willingness to follow the chan...
